Summer weather brings
Dew-flecked peonies in sun
And food-hungry flies.
The wind through tree leaves
Breathes like newborns in warm arms.
Hear it rise and fall.
Small sapling in mud,
Your leaves over-large hands,
Where is your parent?
Soon autumn rain comes,
Then muted November dawns.
Time like leaky cups.
Someone forgot this
Mug of tea on the table.
It has gotten cold.
People break like glass.
Fixed by tape and Elmer’s Glue,
We still miss pieces.
Step by step, days pass,
Step by step, twilight settles.
Have you seen my shoes?
Tulip petals fade,
Like thin paper held to fire.
Until next year, then.
